HS  TERMINOLOGY

Abscess: Swollen area on the body that contains fluid.
Chronic – Continues for a long period of time and progresses slowly. 
Comorbidity – Comorbidity means more than one disease or condition is present in the same person at the same time. Conditions described as comorbidities are often chronic or long-term conditions. Also known as an associated condition. 
Fistula – An opening on the surface of the skin which forms a tunnel of connecting abscesses.
Lesion – An open wound on the surface of the skin. 
Nodule – A lump on the skin, that may look like a pimple or cyst.
Sinus Tract – A tunnelling wound or “sinus tract” is a narrow opening or passageway extending from a wound underneath the skin in any direction through soft tissue and results in dead space with potential for abscess formation
